Intelligent Technology – Consistent Results (Part 3 of 4)

Would you rather have consistent results or random flashes of greatness?  Do you want a business that improves over time and is managed with the least amount of effort?  It all starts with consistent results.  Hitting goals (accuracy) without have a repeatable business process (consistency) is an exercise in frustration!

Consistent results provide a business platform that can be managed and improved upon over time.

You cannot improve the accuracy of your results, until you have consistent results.  Students provide a good example of this.  If your child brings how a report card that varies wildly each term, how do you know what to focus on?  Math was A last term, up from a B, and then back to a C.  What if it was consistently a B and then you would be able to focus clearly on those studies necessary to get to that CONSISTENT A!

The 80/20 rule for Consistent Results.Twenty percent of your effort yields eighty percent of your results.

Here are three steps you can take to start delivering consistent results for your business:

  1. Identify those vital tasks that will yield the most results
  2. Document those tasks clearly so that they are consistent and repeatable
  3. Increase the ACCURACY of the results over time with continuous improvements

For those of you that want the math behind this you can find it HERE.  There is also a phenomenon that is known as the Law of Diminishing Returns, but that is a topic for another day.  For now just focus on getting those tasks documented and consistent over time!

Setting goals without a consistent process will not deliver over time.

Too many businesses are setting goals that are not achievable over time.  Profitability goal of 20%+ this quarter?  No problem, we can focus on sales and if that doesn’t work at the last minute we can try to cut some costs to hit our number.  No chance this will work over time, and it is incredibly stressful on your people.

Technology is the facilitation of business today.  It provides the consistent experience from which your people operate from.  The first step in delivering Intelligent Technology is to implement our Standards and Service Delivery processes that will deliver that consistent, repeatable experience.  Once that is out of the way, focusing on your business specific tasks and processes becomes much easier!
